The Ingredients Satchel in Red Dead Redemption 2 increases the amount of edible ingredients Arthur can carry, making it useful if you regularly hunt, gather herbs or craft while exploring.
To upgrade the Ingredients Satchel in RDR2, you’ll first need to unlock Pearson’s Leather Working Tools and donate five animal carcasses to Pearson. You’ll then need a Perfect Deer Pelt, Perfect Badger Pelt and Perfect Squirrel Carcass to craft the upgrade.

How to Unlock the Ingredients Satchel in RDR2
Before Pearson can craft the Ingredients Satchel, you’ll need to meet two requirements:
- Purchase the Leather Working Tools through the camp ledger.
- Donate five animal carcasses to Pearson.
Once you’ve completed both requirements, the Ingredients Satchel will become available under Pearson’s Crafting Upgrades.

Where to Find the Ingredients Satchel Animals
Where to Find Deer in RDR2
Deer are common across most of the map, especially in open fields and wooded areas. Look for a three-star deer and use a rifle for a clean kill.
Where to Find Badgers in RDR2
Badgers are smaller and can be harder to spot. They are commonly found in Lemoyne, West Elizabeth and parts of New Hanover.
They are often easier to find at night. Use Eagle Eye to help track them and a Varmint Rifle to preserve the quality of a three-star badger.
Accurate Locations:
Lemoyne – The best place to find badgers is in Lemoyne, west of the Kamassa River. Badgers can be found throughout the Scarlett Meadows and the area around Rhodes.
West Elizabeth – Explore the edges of the map north/northeast of the Aurora Basin in Tall Trees, ranging the area towards the northern part of the Upper Montana River.
Tumbleweed – This is far location, but Tumbleweed down in the far south also has a decent badger population.
New Hanover/Ambarino – And up north, head to the eastern side of the Dakota River. Badgers appear in the Cumberland Forest and up towards Bacchus Station in fairly large numbers.
Where to Find Squirrels in RDR2
Squirrels are common in wooded areas throughout the map. Because of their small size and quick movement, they can be difficult to hit cleanly.
Look for a three-star squirrel and use a Bow with Small Game Arrows.

How to Get Perfect Pelts and Carcasses
Before taking the shot, make sure the animal has a three-star rating. Killing a lower-quality animal will not give you a Perfect Pelt or Perfect Carcass.
Use the correct weapon for each animal and aim for a clean kill. Dead Eye can help you target vital areas and avoid damaging the pelt.
For the Ingredients Satchel, remember:
- Deer: Rifle
- Badger: Varmint Rifle
- Squirrel: Bow with Small Game Arrows
Avoid firing multiple shots unless absolutely necessary, as excessive damage can reduce the quality of the animal.
All your upgrading needs can be found right in the camp. Find Mr. Pearson aka The Cook of the gang to check out the recipes of the upgrade you’re looking for. We’re looking for the ingredients satchel upgrade, so head on there.
Press “E” to access the Crafting Upgrades menu. Select Satchel and hover on Ingredients Satchel.
Right below you can see the ingredients needed to make the upgraded satchel. For this instance, we’ll be needing:
- 1 x Perfect Deer Pelt
- 1 x Perfect Badger Pelt
- 1 x Perfect Squirrel Carcass
The upgrade did not specify a specific species of animals, so you can hunt for any type of deer and squirrel that you come across. The only thing you should note is the quality of each of the pelt you’ve collected must be in perfect condition.
Craft the Ingredients Satchel at Pearson’s Wagon
Once you’ve collected the Perfect Deer Pelt, Perfect Badger Pelt and Perfect Squirrel Carcass, return to Pearson at camp.
Donate the materials, then open:
Crafting Upgrades → Satchels → Ingredients Satchel
Pearson can then craft the upgrade for you.
